Kuro Maguro is the latest brainchild by Misaki Megumi Suisan, a wholesaler of maguro and sashimi in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. You might find him familiar as the company is also the one who brought in Maguro Donya located at Eat At Seven. As a renowned wholesaler in Japan, his trawlers are capable of catching the biggest maguro in the world. Patrons can rest assure that Kuro Maguro ships in only the freshest maguro, and prices are kept affordable for all to enjoy.
– Gail & Jem
“Kuro Maguro” translates to bluefin tuna. At the restaurant, meat is culled from blue fina that weigh a minimum of 280kg. The fish is imported directly from Misaki Port to Singapore via ANA air freight. How is freshness maintained? The caught fishes are frozen at -60 degrees celsius, a temperature that guarantees absolute freshness.
Maguro dishes include:
Maguro 3-cut Sashimi – $38Toro Uni Meshi – $35.90G & J: No one should be able to resist this, despite the slightly hefty price tag. Considering the quality you’re paying for though, it’s hardly expensive. In this bowl, you get premium maguro, uni (sea urchin) and ikura!
Sansyoku Meshi – $32.80G & J: If you are a maguro fan and want to focus on maguro alone, this is for you. You get 3 types of fresh maguro cuts atop rice.
Toro Aburi Meshi – $32.80G & J: A different twist can be added to maguro too. This is flame-seared to perfection, achieving the slightly torched yet juicy texture.
Kama Yaki – $34G & J: We first tried this at Maguro Donya, and the same quality is repeated here. The cooked soft collarbone of the fish is brought out with the spritz of lemon.
If you just want the usual Barachirashi don (a delightful assortment of cubed sashimi), it’s available at $18.80. There are a total of 18 premium donburi to choose from.
Be spoilt for choice at Kuro Maguro with offerings such as chutoro (medium fatty tuna) and otoro (lowest section of tuna belly).
