Thai restaurants are in abundance these days, and as foodies, we are constantly on the lookout for something special. The Talad Drink & Thai Kitchen – located near the Toa Payoh HDB Hub – is a new kid on the block, and it is certainly barrelling its way through. The young owners of the eatery are focused on one aim: to amalgamate the old and the new. What’s new? Colourful drinks in clear bottles that are sure to capture every instagrammer’s attention. The old? Trusty, authentic and satisfying Thai dishes that are sure to tantalise taste buds.

Drinks sold inhouse and available as takeaway
Mangoon (Mango + Blue Lagoon) – $3.80G: I love how the sweet notes of mango weaves seamlessly with the blue lagoon, which is slightly tangy and jazzy on the tongue. Highly refreshing on hot days.
After shaking and mixing the Mangoon:
You’ll get a very lovely shade of jade! 💙+💛=💚
An Chan Passionfruit – $3.80G & J: If you haven’t heard of the butterfly pea flower, it’s time to read up! Do you know? If you drop a few flowers into a cup of boiling water, the steep releases a vivid deep blue hue that is mesmerising.
This concoction is part of The Talad Drink‘s butterfly pea series, and though the taste is not as impactful as the Mangoon, its visuals are sure on point.
There are many options to choose from, so go ahead and pick your favourite flavour. We recommend the takeaway option as the clear tall bottles that hold the colourful drinks are reusable and super classy.
Deep Fried Sea Bass with Green Mango Salad – $23G & J: If you’re looking to pamper yourself with a fish dish, this is a good option. At an affordable $23, this comes as a treat with its tender and fresh meat. The green mango salad atop provides a nice palate cleanse. The best part is, we will usually order a separate dish of mango salad, but this alone gives us the best of both worlds. Save money! Our only grouch? More sauce please.
Thai Grilled Pork Skewer – $6 for 3 pcs, $10 for $5 pcsG & J: This is quite an uncommon sight in Thai restaurants in Singapore, though you will see it almost everywhere on the streets of Bangkok. Sweet, juicy and marinated pork, just one bite of this and we promise you’ll be coming back for more.
Tom Yum Seafood Soup – $6 (small) / $10 (medium)G & J: The soup is more sour than spicy, which we very much prefer because nobody likes a very spicy broth that kills taste buds before we can enjoy the meal proper.
BBQ Squid with Thai BBQ Sauce – $12G & J: This is a must-order! Although its a simple dish of barbecued sliced squid and sauce, the combination of both gives good texture and taste. Not overly chewy or rubbery, the fresh squid can be eaten alone or dipped into the BBQ sauce. We must say the sauce is very reminiscent of Thai cuisine.
Green Curry Fried Rice – $5.50G & J: This green curry and fried rice pairing is loved by one and all. Don’t be taken in by its simple and ordinary outlook, it is actually a lot more delicious than it looks. The rice is especially fragrant with the addition of lemon and basil leaves.
Thai Coconut Ice-cream – $4.80G & J: The ice-cream is made from young coconut and sprinkled with grounded peanut, corn and nata de coco!
Situated near Toa Payoh MRT, it is a convenient location for both office and heartland crowd. If you’re around the area, drop by to try out some of their dishes and take some instagrammable photos of their colourful drinks. It’s quite hard to resist if you consider the affordability of the food!
